A day in Berlin’s district Wedding

A day in Berlin’s district Wedding is a perfect escape from the busy city center. Wedding is still very underrated, but totally worth a visit. Did you know that it has been rated by TimeOut as one of the hippest districts in the world? Officially it’s part of Mitte and therefore super reachable! It’s my neighborhood and I love to tell you all about it.

1. Mirage Bistrot

Start your day with a tasty brunch at Mirage Bistrot. I recommend you to try one of the Croques with a coffee or fresh juice on the side. Mirage has a sunny terrace where you can sit down and relax for hours. Watching people pass by while sipping from your cappuccino is a perfect way to spend the morning. Not just great for brunch, as Mirage organizes regular musical events during the weekend. Definitely keep an eye on their Facebook page if you’re interested.

2. MARS Kitchen & Bar

You can find MARS Kitchen & Bar in a former crematorium (yes it sounds a bit lurid, but believe me it’s a cool spot now). It serves as a bar, restaurant and event venue. The restaurant has a delightful garden that makes you lose track of time.
Culture tip: check out Silent Green (part of MARS) where events such as book releases, performances, films, etc. are being held.

3. Plötzensee

Plötzensee is a lovely small lake that has a Strandbad (beach) you can enter paying a small fee (free after 8 PM). The Strandbad has a sandy beach with several facilities. On a budget? On the other side (east) of the lake, you can enter the water without paying. I love going here after work for a picnic and a swim. Even renting a boat is an option. Get a paddle or rowing boat and take a refreshing swim to the middle of the lake to cool down.

4. Du Jardin

The terrace of Du Jardin is always full! It’s an amazing cafe to start or end your day. The terrace emits a real French vibe. But not just the outside is lovely. The inside is very cozy as well. At night delicious cocktails are being served. Du Jardin also organizes events. Check out their page for regular music gigs.

5. Sommerbad Humboldthain

I love going here when temperatures rise. The Sommerbad in the Humboldthain park has a large outdoor pool. It has a grass field to relax after taking a swim. Make sure to get there on time or be prepared to queue during hot summer days. Humboldthain Park itself is a great park to take a stroll or enjoy a picnic. The park has hills consisting of World War II leftover bunkers. History everywhere!

6. Druckbar

Every Thursday the Druckbar (printing shop) in Wedding opens its doors for Art & Pizza night. Buy a screenprint for 9 euros and get a pizza with your favorite toppings for free! Prepare for some waiting time, as the pizzas are being freshly baked by the owner. Sip from a cold glass of wine on the terrace and enjoy!

7. Stranero

Stranero is by far my favorite pizza place!! Super affordable pizzas made by real Italians. The prices start at 5 euros for a pizza! I recommend the Quattro Formaggi and a huge (and very cheap) carafe of wine to share. Get off your couch and treat yourself. They also have great vegan options.

8. Eis Manufaktur

This place is the perfect dessert spot if you have some room left after your Stranero pizza (as it happens to be just right around the corner). Artisanal ice cream without any additives, so al perfectly natural. They have 5 locations spread around the city. So even when not in Wedding you can still enjoy their delicious ice cream.

9. Eschenbräu

Last but not least: Eschenbräu. A brewery with a restaurant and Biergarten (beer garden). Try their homemade beers and enjoy a nice Flammkuchen (flame pastry or tarte flambée) with it. Great garden in summer and super cozy in winter.

When are you going to spend a day in Berlin’s district Wedding? Have you been there before? I would love to hear about your favorite spots!

With love,
