Miami’s hippest neigborhoods

Miami is a city in the South-East of Florida, located right at the Atlantic Ocean. It is well known for its beaches and the island of Miami Beach. But it has much more to offer than just sun, sand and sea. In this blog post I will put Miami’s hippest neighborhoods for you in a row. Inspiration guaranteed!

Wynwood

Wynwood is definitely one of Miami’s hippest neighborhoods. It is know as the city’s art district that exists since 2009, when the area got a serious makeover. The absolute highlight of the neighborhood is the Wynwood Walls. Beautiful murals with works of famous street artists. Great Instagram content guaranteed! But you can also find great galleries, bars and restaurants, markets and live music all over the place. I would recommend you to visit Wynwood during the weekend, as there will be much more going on than during weekdays. Check out their website for art walks, events, markets, festivals etc.

Design District (& Midtown)

The Miami Design District is a (window) shopping paradise. This district is located on walking distance from Wynwood. Therefore, with good weather I recommend you to walk from one neighborhood to the other! While walking from Wynwood to the Design District (or the other way around), you will pass through Midtown. If you have some time left, make sure to check out the Shops at Midtown and the many restaurants and bars Midtown has to offer.
The Design District is known for its modern architecture, high end fashion brands and design furniture. Initially, the neighborhood solely existed of design furniture stores, but nowadays you can also shop clothing and jewelry or even grab a bite to eat.

Brickell (& Downtown)

Brickell is the financial heart of Miami and its known for its imposing luxury buildings. What I really loved, was seeing Brickell at night, when all the lights turned on. Are you a shopping fanatic? Make sure to check out Brickell City Center, a beautiful shopping mall with modern designs. (Italian) food lovers can eat their hearts out as this mall has an amazing food court, called Casa Tua Cucina. Italian food all over. Another must-go-to for foodies is the Luna Park Mercato, with a bar, a dining area and some great food shops!

Coconut Grove & Coral Way

Coconut Grove will make you feel like you are far away from the big city of Miami and in the middle of nature. Best would be to take a car to visit Coconut Grove (as distances are quite big). One of the highlights is the beautiful Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. The Vizcaya is a villa built in 1916 in the Mediterranean Revival architecture. Also, make sure to check out the Organic Market held on Saturdays, the CocoWalk mall (under construction after being destructed by a hurricane) and Peacock Park & the Marina.
Once in Coconut Grove it is easy to get to Coral Way. If you have some time left, I recommend you to make a bike ride through Coral Way (or simply take a car if you don’t have that much time). Take the Coral Way road, the most iconic road of the neighborhood, with very beautiful plants and trees and colonial style houses.

Little Havana

Something I really noticed in Miami is the many Latin influences on the city. I spoke more Spanish than English during my stay there. This is also something you can notice across the different neighborhoods. One example is Little Havana, Miami’s Cuban neighborhood. Make sure to take Calle 8 and check out the Cuban Walk of Fame. Don’t forget to eat some great Cuban food in one of the many places surrounding Calle 8.
